Economic Definition of current yield. Defined.

Term current yield Definition: The yield or return on a financial asset calculated as the annual rate of return on the purchase price. The current yield is not necessarily equal to the yield to maturity or the coupon rate. For example a $100,000 corporate bond with a 5% coupon rate that is purchased at a discount of $95,000 has a current yield of 5.26%.
